Devlog 3- Modding a board game

<span class="NormalTextRun SCXW53668329 BCX0" <this="" week="" <="" span="">In Design for play, we talked briefly about games and the six elements of a game. To have a better understanding of the player's experience.</span>

We were then separated into groups of three or four to play a game called, “the river”. In this game, the players must get their three pieces to the harbor at the end of the river. However, the player must consider things when moving their pieces. After every player has taken a turn, to roll the dice and moves their pieces, the bottom card piece moves to the top of the river. Players must be careful, or all their pieces will be eliminated from the rest of the game.

In our group of four, we soon realized that the game is taking longer than other groups around us. We mentioned how we would want to make the game faster paced. It was one issue that we agreed on changing as soon as Dr.S mentioned that we would need to mod the game. One of my group members mentioned that after every two turns a single river piece at the bottom can be removed from the game entirely. I will say that in doing so it made the game riskier and shortened the game time.  <span class="NormalTextRun SCXW53668329 BCX0" <this="" change="" <="" span="">would what would add tension to the game greatly. In one instance, four pieces were removed due to the piece being taken away, and it drastically changed  the game. <span class="NormalTextRun SCXW53668329 BCX0" <the="" gameplay.="" <="" span="">At one point I lost two of my pieces after a river piece was removed from the game</span>. </span>

Overall, It was a fun week of see how changing some of the elements of a game can either make or break the game.  To top it all off we got use our IdeaPaks this week! I am looking forward to what the coming coming week has in store for us with board gaming a sport.
